Babywearing is a topic that comes up when I go on interviews with potential clients. It is a topic that came up when I first met Lindsay Price from 90210 and Lipstick Jungle fame.
I assured her that I would help her get established with babywearing if she decided to have me as her postpartum doula. Mutually, we agreed that we were a good match and the day Lindsay brought her newborn son, Hudson, home from the hospital, I was there to support her in her new role as a mother.
I encourage babywearing from early newborn days to toddlerhood and beyond if possible. The benefits to both parents and babies are priceless. Early babywearing is beneficial to foster bonding between parent and baby. Hugging baby close in a carrier is a wonderful way to get to know your baby and for your baby to learn about you. Babies also thrive with touch, and babywearing is a wonderful way to maintain a loving contact with your baby. Beyond bonding and touch, babies who are worn are more content and their parents more confident and relaxed, as they are able to move freely about their day, accomplishing the daily tasks that parenthood brings. Happy babies, happy parents.
Before Hudson was born, I don't think Lindsay really understood how babywearing would positively impact her. As her doula, I remember the first day she wore Hudson. When she first had him in the Ergo and started walking around, a glow on her face emerged. She realized that she was once again mobile and it was like a new world opened up to her. Her hands were free and she became able to do tasks that she hadn't been able to do previous to wearing Hudson. Within minutes, I left for the day, knowing that Lindsay was more independent than before the Ergo.
"When Marcy first suggested I try the Ergo I was happy to give it a shot because she always had many wonderful ideas. But really, I was just feeling stuck to my new duties as a doting new mother. I felt I could not move around as I wanted to and I had no idea how much freedom and peace would come from being able to move freely around my home, take a long walk, hike, or just soothe Hudson to sleep. We could be close as we wanted and as free as we needed, together. All of a sudden I had both of my hands free and Hudson close to me! We have been all over the world together with the Ergo, " says, Lindsay Price.
Ergo has made life easier for me as well. Why? I know that the quality is great and the attachment one gets from wearing their baby is priceless. I know that the babies are safe and where they should be, close to their parents or caregiver. Thank you Ergo for making parents comfortable and able to hug baby close all while maintaining freedom to go about their new lives as parents.
